Les100ciels – Heavenly soft fabrics and quirky designs

It’s SS16 press days time!

Last night I went to the Les100ciels SS16 press event and I must say, I really like the direction in which the brand is going. I’ve been now following the brand’s development for over a year and the more I get to know it, the more I’m falling in love with it’s simple and yet extremely sophisticated designs.

I particularly like the straight structures and silhouettes, geometric prints and uniquely hand-dyed fabrics.
You know that feeling when you touch something and its so soft and luxurious that you don’t want to take your hand away. That’s what true fashion means to me, the design and the quality of the pieces should come together in a seamless and beautiful way – which leaves me with no other option but with the desire to wear it!

Well, I certainly had the desire to try out the coat (sorry that the rest of my outfit doesn’t really match – it was a spontaneous gesture of mine…) I had to grab it when I saw it!

What I also really like is the name – les100ciels (the hundred skies, when translated from French) but when you pronounce it in the correct way, it sounds like l’essentials – “The essentials”!
What a beautiful wordplay!

Either way, I will be keeping my eye on the brand as I think that it will go far!

Are you feeling as excited about it’s future steps as I am?
What’s your favourite up and coming designer label? Would love to read your comments and suggestions!

Let’s talk about our Selfie-Mania…

Selfie

Another mirror-selfie…?

Well, I’d say its not a big secret that we’re all a bit “obsessed” with selfies nowadays. There are selfies whenever you look… they’re all over Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat… we’ve gone even that far that we created a need for a new product: the selfie-stick!

                                                                                                       …and there are selfie songs.

Here are some of the most popular selfie hashtags:
#selfie
#selfietime
#selfienation
#selfiequeen
#selfieoftheday
#selfiecentral
#selfielove
#selfielife
#selfiemania
#selfieselfie
#selfiemonday, #selfietuesday, #selfiewednesday, #selfiethursday, #selfiefriday, #selfiesaturday, #selfiesunday… basically #selfieeveryday…
#selfiegram and #instaselfie
… this is so much fun, I think I could go on forever!
With this post, I would like to raise some questions and it would be great to hear your thoughts on it…so hopefully we can start a discussion about it.
  • So what is this obsession with selfies and what has happened to us?
  • Have we always been so self-centered or did the technology pushed us in this direction?
  • Did the celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber set a selfie-trend which many people are just too keen to follow?

Maybe, its about the control that a selfie is giving us… after all we can take as many selfies as we want (without feeling bad about asking anyone to retake it if something doesn’t look right) until we are absolutely sure that we look stunning on it and the picture is ready to be released on the social media channels…

What are your thoughts? I’m keen to hear them!

This is a man’s world…feat. Boston and Boston

This is a man's accessories world

“This is a man’s world…”

…remembering this incredible song by James Brown I was walking around the Boston & Boston showroom last week, realising that I really don’t know much about accessories for men.

However, as with lots of other things in life – the more you find out about a specific topic, the more interesting and exciting it becomes.
With that in mind, what started as a fun and lighthearted tour, turned into an incredible treasure hunt from my side!
Who could have thought that cufflinks, lapel pins, bow-ties, tie clips and other useful accessories can be so fashionably colourful and a real add-on to any gentlemen’s wardrobe?!

DenisonBoston and Fedon
Cufflinks&Bowtie: DenisonBoston / Wallets: FEDON
Excited about my new discoveries, I decided to share my newly acquired knowledge with my lovely readers and shed some light onto men’s fashion accessories, putting together a small overview of those little attractive details, guys can pin onto their suits, shirts and ties…

Taking inspiration from DENISONBOSTON.COM accessories I’ve put together a “Modern Gentleman’s Accessories Guide” with pictures and descriptions – so hopefully you’ll find it helpful!

Modern Gentleman’s Accessories Guide

Gentlemen's Accessories
1. Tie – usually ads either a formal feel or a colourful touch (Here are some tips on tying knots)
2. Cufflinks – used to secure French button cuffs (Selection of great luxury cufflinks)
3. Lapel Pin – small pin/brooch worn in the top left corner lapel of a suit collar (Examples)
4. Socks – you probably know this one – try to colourmatch it with your tie!
5. Hank/Square pocket – if folded correctly can look like a piece of art (Folding techniques
6. Bow-tie – seams to go into fashion again, great add-on! (Inspiration)
7. Dress studs – want to replace your shirt buttons by something more colourful and exciting
8. Collarstays – one of the keys to making that shirt look crisp and stylish (Picture)
9. Tie slide – pins down the tie to the shirt (Suggestions)
10. Collarbar – a piece that holds the two ends of a dress shirt collar together (Video)

Snail handbag by One Vintage

Snail handbag illustration
Description

The other day, I walked into this cute little multi-brand boutique near South Kensington, called D&Me and to my delight I found a store full of hidden treasures!
I particularly liked the brand called ONE VINTAGE, designed by the store owner Marcelle Symons. Mercelle’s designs are very unique and beautiful, showing rich embellishment and creative patterns.

Snail handbag by One VintageOne of my favorite discoveries is this amazing snail hand bag which caught my eye as soon as I entered the shop! Therefore, I decided to make it to the star of my current illustration.

I can recommend everyone who is on a hunt for unique and incredible pieces to have a peek in D&Me store and I promise that they will not be disappointed!

Easter Madness feat. Manolo Blahnik

Easter Madness feat. Manolo Blahnik

Description

Ok, let’s face it! Who wouldn’t be beyond excited to find a pair of Manolo Blahniks during their shoe… ah I mean egg hunt? It certainly would be MY dream scenario! That’s why I decided to share it with you guys and created this cute little Easter illustration!

I’ve recently read an article about Manolo B. in Business of Fashion and was straight away fascinated with this “God-of-Shoe-Creations”! The fact that Manolo knows EXACTLY who the woman is, he is designing his shoes for, is just unbelievable. Of course, he doesn’t know her name – but he knows her personality traits, her background story and her style. Each of his shoes is as individual as us, girls! No wonder he is so successful…

Inspiration

For my illustration, I decided to use the SS14 collection choosing these exquisite and playful stiletto sandals decorated with gorgeous flowers!

And the angel-like image below was my inspiration for the “Shoe Egg-hunt” illustration!

There is only one question left – which of Manolo Blahnik’s shoe creations tells your story?
Feel free to comment! I’m waiting! ♥

Happy Valentine’s Day! feat. PIAGET

Valentine's Day illustration
 Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

This latest illustration is featuring PIAGET, an amazing jewellery and watch brand – I’ve only discovered it a few weeks ago and instantly fell in love with their creations, especially those gorgeous Valentine’s Day pendant hearts!

PIAGET Jewellery

The Definition Of Love
For Fate with jealous eye does not see
Two perfect loves, nor lets them close:
Their union would her ruin be,
And her tyrranic power depose.
And therefore her decrees of steel
Us as the distant Poles have placed
(Though Love’s whole world on us doth wheel)
Not by themselves to be embraced,
Unless the giddy heaven fall,
And earth some new convulsion tear;
And, us to join, the world should all
Be cramped into a planisphere.
As lines (so loves) oblique may well
Themselves in every angle greet:
But ours so truly parallel,
Though infinite, can never meet.
Therefore the love which us doth bind,
But Fate so enviously debars,
Is the conjunction of the mind,
And opposition of the stars.

Naked Fashions Blog Avatar

Naked Fashions Social Media IconNaked Fashions by Fashion Artista
Description

When Lauren Johnstone approached me with a request to do an illustration for her blog called Naked Fashions I was not quite sure where to start… what to choose as a theme for a blog with such a contradicting name? However, as I really liked Lauren’s blog ( I think she has exactly the right mixture of informative and interesting fashion topics with a nice subjective edge to it ) I decided to give it a go.

I got back to Lauren and asked her if she has any specific requests or motives in mind, whereupon she sent me a picture of a girl, wearing a jumper with an inscription, standing with her back towards the camera.
That was something I could definitely work with – so I started to experiment and develop this idea further.

Inspiration

I wanted to create something elegant and mysterious, sexy yet subtle. Initially, I thought to leave her back completely bare and have the name of the blog “tattooed” on it, but I quickly dropped the idea – after all, the blog is about fashion… Therefore, I decided that she should wear a nice evening dress with a low and revealing back which will make her look fashionably dressed and half-naked at the same time.
I love how it turned out in the end and really hope that you like it as well!

At the moment, my illustration is being used as a social media avatar for Facebook and as a website icon.
If you’re interested in fashion, I highly recommend you to visit Lauren’s blog www.nakedfashions.com and follow her on FB and Twitter!

On the way to a better life feat. Michael Serwa

“On the way to a better life”

Description

This post is a little bit fashion-unrelated, but I hope that it is as interesting and engaging as the others.
Last night I went to a birthday party of my good friend Michael Serwa.

Michael SerwaMichael is a life coach based in London whose job it is to transform people’s lives, making them feel better about themselves and helping them to achieve the goals in life they would have never even dreamed about before. You can visit his homepage www.michaelserwa.com for more information. I really think that Michael is a great guy and knows his job really well.

Michael is also the author of the highly successful book “From Good to Amazing: No Bullshit Tips for The Life You Always Wanted“.

Michael-Serwa-book

Inspiration

The idea behind this illustration came to me when I was looking for Michael’s birthday present. After having spend half my day unsuccessfully gift-chasing it dawned on me! Such an incredible and inspiring person like Michael needs a very special birthday present which cannot be found anywhere on high street.

Therefore, I thought it might be a good idea to somehow portray him helping his clients on their way up to a better life. Although he is giving them a helping hand, its actually them who have to make the effort and climb up the stairs. It is also them who have to take the first step and contact him.
I deliberately didn’t draw faces on Michael’s “clients” as they could be anyone. Also, I tried to portray men and women from different social backgrounds.
The colour of the steps changes from dark to light and from cold to warm the higher you go. This means that its always more difficult in the beginning, but as soon as you begin to see the results of your transformation, your journey becomes easier and more satisfying.

There are many other hidden messages in this illustration which I will let you to figure out for yourself.

And always remember – BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, you are unique and amazing and you can achieve whatever you want in this life!

M.A.C Fireworks of Colours

M.A.C – Fireworks of Colours
Happy New Year 2014!!!
Description

What would the fashion world possibly be like without make up? I can’t even dare to imagine that! Both industries go hand in hand and complement one another in a very special way. Either we’re talking about catwalks, editorials, commercial shoots or even a simple night out with friends – make up has become irreplaceable for us girls, making our world more and more beautiful every day.

The most fascinating thing about make up is that it can completely change your looks in just a matter for minutes. I am actually a model myself and I’m always fascinated what make up artists can do with my face – sometimes it seems like magic!

Here are some examples of my previous photo shoots with incredible MUAs and obviously mostly M.A.C make up!

Tatjana Apukhtina make up collage

Every make up artist knows that M.A.C is one of the best professional cosmetics / make up brands and this is the reason why I decided to feature it in my illustration!

Inspiration

First of all I wanted to create an illustration in theme with NYE (can’t believe we’re heading towards 2014!) and since I love fireworks it seemed like a fun idea to incorporate them in my artwork. Moreover, I got this amazing Wacom Intuos Pro tablet for Christmas and wanted to try it out – so this is my first ever digital painting! So please be kind with your feedback, I’m still learning! 😛

With regard to the idea for the image – I think that M.A.C’s shadow palette is so colourful that it almost reminds me of fireworks, don’t you agree?

Behind the scenes
As already mentioned before, this is my first digital illustration (Photoshop & Wacom Intuos Pro tablet) so don’t be too hard on me. Here are some pictures of work in progress.
